Robert Hamilton was born in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh, and enlisted for the 6th Dragoons at York on 14 April 1807, at the young age of thirteen years. He served at the battle of Waterloo, in Captain Henry Madox’s troop, and with the Army of Occupation in France until 1 January 1816. In August 1821, he was discharged from the 6th Dragoons and re-enlisted into the 7th Hussars, being promoted Trumpeter in July 1832. He was reduced to Private in February 1834 and discharged on 29 November 1834, in consequence of ‘disease or disability contracted probably by his service as a musician’. Sold with copy discharge papers.
