A mounted pair of miniature dress medals attributed to Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel G. Andrew, Army Medical Department, India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, North West Frontier; Afghanistan 1878-80, no clasp, mounted as worn, good very fine (2) £40-60

George Andrew was born on 5 September 1840. He gained the M.A. at King’s College, Aberdeen in 1860 and the M.B. in 1864. Appointed Assistant Surgeon on the Staff in March 1865, transferred to the 6th Foot in July 1866 and to the Staff again in June 1870. Promoted to Surgeon in the Army Medical Department in March 1875(?), Surgeon Major in March 1877 and Brigade Surgeon, afterwards Brigade Surgeon Lieutenant-Colonel in February 1891. Placed on Retired Pay on 24 April 1895, he died on 19 October 1899. Served in the Black Mountain Expedition of 1868 and the Afghanistan War of 1878-80. Sold with copied confirmation of degrees and some service details.
