A Second World War D.F.C. attributed to Flight Lieutenant L. A. Likeman, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve

Distinguished Flying Cross
, G.VI.R., reverse officially dated ‘1945’, in Royal Mint case of issue, with Buckingham Palace slip named to ‘Flight Lieutenant Lewis A. Likeman, D.F.C.’, extremely fine £800-1000

D.F.C. London Gazette 19 October 1945.

Flight Lieutenant Lewis Allan Likeman (121241), Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, No. 194 Squadron (Navigator); sorties 184; flying hours 766. Recommendation states: ‘Flight Lieutenant Likeman had already completed a first tour of operational duty with Bomber Command prior to joining his present squadron. He has since completed a large number of flying hours, many of them in most dangerous circumstances. His skill in navigation has been of great value to his crew, while flying over difficult, mountainous terrain in monsoon weather. Many of his missions have necessitated flying within range of enemy fighters, in unarmed aircraft. Despite such hazards, Flight Lieutenant Likeman has completed numerous supply dropping and troop carrying missions with success’. Sold with copied research.
