William Haig was born on 3 December 1870, the son of W. and Martha Haig. Educated at Edinburgh University and Edinburgh Royal College of Surgeons, he qualified as a M.B. and a Master in Surgery. He entered the Volunteer Force in 1900 and thence the Territorials in 1908. In the Great War he served as the Medical Officer to the Forth Garrison Artillery and Royal Engineers from August 1914 to April 1915. He served overseas with the Black Watch, May 1915-March 1917, and served with the 1/3rd Highland Field Ambulance, attached to the 34th Ambulance Train, March-October 1917. He subsequently commanded the 37th Ambulance Train (The Fair Maid of Perth) from its mobilization in November 1917 until its demobilization in July 1919. Sold with copied research.
