WX 8224 Sapper James Scott, 2/6 Field Park Company, Royal Australian Engineers, died of illness as a prisoner-of-war of the Japanese on 19 January 1945. He was one of over 2000 allied P.O.W. held in Sandakan P.O.W. Camp in north Borneo, having been transferred there from Singapore as part of ‘B’ Force. The 1494 P.O.W’s. that made up ‘B’ Force, were transported from Changi on 7 July 1942 on board the Ubi Maru, arriving in Sandakan Harbour on 18 July 1942. Sapper Scott was the son of William and Jean Scott and husband of Dulcie Maris Scott of South Perth, Western Australia. His name is commemorated on the Labuan Memorial. Sold with some copied details.
