Five: Guardsman J. Ramskill, Scots Guards

1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals, unnamed as issued, extremely fine (5) £80-120

Medals in card forwarding box addressed to J. Ramskill in Barnsley, Yorkshire; also with the recipient’s ‘Soldiers Service and Pay Book’; two letters from the Records Office Scots Guards, dated 27 April and 7 May 1943, to the recipient’s mother with regard to her son being wounded; a letter from the Ministry of Pensions; a photograph; a metal mirror; a ‘Scots Guards’ blazer badge and embroidery on cloth depicting the badge of the Scots Guards.

Joseph Ramskill was born on 13 February 1914 and enlisted in London on 27 June 1940. He served in the Scots Guards in Egypt and Syria, 26 October 1942-7 February 1943, the Middle East, 8 February-9 September 1943 and North Africa, 10 September-22 December 1943. In April 1943 it was reported in a letter to his mother that he had suffered wounds to the right loin. He was discharged on 13 January 1944 due to ‘Ceasing to fulfil army physical requirements’.
