Three: Flight Sergeant G. F. Emery, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve

Flight Sergeant Gordon Frederick Emery, R.A.F.V.R., was killed in a flying accident whilst on operational service on 18 July 1944. The Halifax III bomber, MZ286 NP-X, of No.158 Squadron took off at 03.44 on 18 July 1944 from R.A.F. Lissett - bound for Caen, but crashed approximately two minutes later into the sea off Barmston, East Yorkshire. The Halifax exploded on impact killing all the crew. Emery was buried in his home town of Faversham, Kent. He was the son of Richard and Amy Jane Emery of Faversham and husband of Muriel Emery of Spoffoth. Sold with card medal forwarding box addressed to ‘Mrs M. Emery, “Hazeldene”, Spoffoth, Nr. Harrogate, Yorkshire”; also with named condolence slip and copied research.
