Charles Webb was born on 1 August 1890. A Gardener by occupation, he attested for the Devonshire Regiment on 1 August 1908. He was appointed Lance-Sergeant in August 1914 and was promoted to Acting-Sergeant in October 1914. He entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 21 August 1914; was wounded at Festubert on 20 October 1914 which resulted in his return to England on 3 November. He returned to France on 1 March 1916, remaining there until November 1917. Appointed Acting Company Sergeant-Major in November 1916, he reverted to Lance-Sergeant in September 1917. On 26 February 1918 he was discharged to a permanent commission in the 3rd Battalion Devonshire Regiment. Post war he served in the Reserve of Officers. Sold with 48 sheets of copied service details.
