Rothwell Walsh enlisted at Bury on 29 October 1894. Serving with the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers in South Africa, he was posted ‘missing in action’ at Spion Kop on 24 January 1900 but having been taken prisoner he was later released. Note: In the published casualty rolls he is incorrectly listed as 4996 Private H. Rothwell, 2/Lancashire Fusiliers. Sold with some copied research.
