Thomas Arthur James Witt was born in Hackney, Middlesex on 8 September 1867. He entered the Royal Navy on 9 August 1893 as a Boy 2nd Class on Boscawen, becoming a Boy 1st Class in May 1884. He served on the Bacchante from May 1885, firstly as a Boy then as an Ordinary Seaman, leaving that ship in November 1888 having served in the Burma campaign. He attained the rank of Leading Seaman in December 1902 prior to serving on the Hyacinth, July 1903-June 1905, during which time he served in the Somaliland campaign. He was pensioned ashore in January 1916 after serving the early years of the war on Pembroke I and President. Sold with copied service paper and copied extract from A.G.S. roll.
