Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (Capt. J. Norris, 1.B. Rifle Brigade) contemporary engraved naming; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, contemporary tailor’s copy by J.B., together with related pair of miniature medals, Rifle Brigade officer’s silvered pouch belt plate, four screw posts to the reverse with later pin fitting to the back plate, and an attractive large oval portrait of the recipient in uniform wearing medals, oil on board, in gilt frame, medals with contact marks and light pitting, otherwise nearly very fine (6) £600-800

William Norris entered the Rifle Brigade as an Ensign by purchase on 17 March 1854, becoming Lieutenant in December 1854, and Captain by purchase in January 1856. He served at the siege of Sebastopol from December 1854, and was severely wounded in the trenches on 16 April 1855. See lot 947 for related family medals.
