Pair: Major J. W. Renny, 19th Bombay Native Infantry

Ghuznee 1839 (Lieutt. J. W. Renny, 19th Regt. N.I.) named on the edge and fitted with contemporary replacement bar suspension; Punjab 1848-49, 2 clasps, Mooltan, Goojerat (Captn. J. W. Renny, 19th Regt. N.I.) together with a large-sized miniature of the first, similarly named, all three contained in an old leather fitted case, together with a scarce 19th Bombay N.I. officer’s shako plate, this cracked at one lower point, the arches of the crown and finial crushed but complete, gilt mostly good, the medals nearly very fine (4) £1000-1200

John Warden Renny was appointed Ensign in the 19th Bombay Native Infantry on 16 February 1827, and promoted Lieutenant in June 1838, and Captain in January 1846. He served in the Afghanistan campaign of 1838-39, at the siege and storm of Ghuznee, for which he has a medal, and also in the campaigns against the Bheels in the Tathpoora Hills, where he commanded a detachment from the Maltigaum Brigade under Captain Outram. Major Renny was brother-in-law to Captain J. A. Anderton of the same regiment (See previous lot). Sold with copy nomination papers and service record.
