Colonel F. W. V. Leckie, Bombay Infantry

Afghanistan 1878-80, 1 clasp, Kandahar (Cap. F. W. V. Leckie, 8th Bo. N.I.) together with related small silver prize shield inscribed ‘Deolali Cup, 19 Bombay Infantry, Mhow 1894’, lacquered, otherwise extremely fine (2) £300-350

Frederick William Vans Leckie was present during the war in Afghanistan, 1879-80, as Staff Officer of Transport and served as Brigade Major of the Force sent out to cover the retreat from Maiwand, and during the defence of Kandahar, including the sorties on 12th and 16th August. He was present in the same capacity at the battle of 1st September (Medal and clasp, Despatches G.G.O. 868 of 1880). Leckie became a Colonel in April 1894 and was placed on half pay in July 1901.
