General G. A. Leckie, Bombay Native Infantry

Hyderabad 1843 (Lieutt. G. A. Leckie, 21st Regt. N.I.) officially engraved naming, fitted with wide silver scroll suspension, lacquered, otherwise good very fine £700-900

George Alexander Leckie was born on 9 January 1819, and joined the Bombay Army as an Ensign in February 1836. He was appointed to the 21st Bombay Native Infantry in July 1837 and was present with that regiment throughout the Scinde Campaign of 1843, including the battle of Hyderabad. His subsequent promotions were to Captain, March 1849; Major, Bombay Staff Corps, February 1861; Lieutenant-Colonel, February 1863 to February 1864; placed on unemployed supernumerary list, July 1881; General, January 1889. General Leckie died at Exeter on 20 June 1894.
