Australia Service Medal (NX11783 J. T. Green) good very fine £50-70

John Thomas Green was born in Cootamundra, New South Wales, on 26 January 1909. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Australian Army on 24 February 1940. Serving with the 2/10th Battalion he entered the Middle Eastern theatre of war in March 1941. On 22 July 1941 he was wounded in action - receiving a gunshot wound to the right ankle. With the regiment, in February 1942 he returned to Australia and thence to Papua New Guinea. He was killed in action at Buna, New Guinea on 24 December 1942. His name is commemorated on the Port Moresby Memorial. Sold with a quantity of copied research, including service papers which show Green as a ‘serial defaulter’, and war diary extracts, December 1942.
