Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Lieut. G. Porter, 82nd Regt.) minor edge bruising, good very fine £350-400

George Porter was born in Surrey on 5 February 1831, and was commissioned as Ensign in the 82nd Regiment on 22 June 1855, and promoted to Lieutenant on 26 Februray 1856. He served with the 82nd in the North West Provinces in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny in 1857-58, including the operations at Cawnpore under Windham and defeat there of the Gwalior Contingent, destruction of Tettehah, actions of Goorsagunge and Khankur, defence of the Jail of Shahjehanpore, attack and capture of the fort of Bunnai, destruction of Mahomdee and subsequent operations, capture and destruction of Shahabad, and action of Bunkagaon (Medal). He subsequently transferred to the 53rd (Shropshire) Regiment and retired by sale of his commission in 1861. Sold with copied research.
