Portuguese Cayenne Medal 1809, silver-gilt, unmounted, contained in original copper shells, the top lid inscribed in ink, ‘Prince Regent of Portugal, 1809’, small test mark to edge, otherwise nearly extremely fine, scarce £550-650

Given by the Prince Regent of Portugal for the capture of the island of Cayenne. In addition to those awarded to Portuguese officers and other ranks involved in the action, it was awarded to Captain (later Sir) James Yeo and 80 seamen and marines of H.M.S. Confiance who assisted in the task.
