The rare Egypt Royal Red Cross group of four awarded to Matron M.C. Jerrard, Army Medical Department and Military Nursing Establishment

Royal Red Cross, 1st Class, V.R., silver-gilt and enamel, with gold centres, on bow ribbon, upper arm chipped; South Africa 1877-79, no clasp (Mary Jerrard, “Nurse”); Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, 1 clasp, The Nile 1884-85 (Nursing Sister M. C. Jerrard); Khedive’s Star 1884-6, unnamed, good very fine and better except where stated (5) £5000-6000

London Gazette, 23 October 1885 (Sent to GOC. Egypt on 31 October, 1885).

Mary Clementine Jerrard was attached to the Army Medical Department during the Zulu War and was one of only 14 Nurses to receive the South African Medal. During the Egyptian campaign she saw service with the Military Nursing Establishment, having been posted to Wady Halfa for the operations on the Nile. Approximately 30 medals were issued to Nurses for the Egyptian campaign.
