The Most Honourable Order of The Bath, C.B. (Military) Companion’s breast badge, gold and enamel, hallmarks unclear, fitted with swivel ring and straight bar suspension, with gold buckle on ribbon; Crimea 1854-56, 3 clasps, Alma, Inkermann, Sebastopol (B. W. Marlow, M.D., Surgeon, 28th Regt.), privately impressed; France, Second Empire, Legion of Honour, 5th Class breast badge, silver, gold and enamel, enamel damage, fine; Turkish Crimea 1855, Sardinian issue, unnamed, pierced with ring suspension, good very fine except where stated (4) £1200-1400

Benjamin William Marlow was born on 18 March 1820 and became an M.D. at Edinburgh in 1842. He entered the army as an Assistant Surgeon with the 28th Regiment in 1842. Appointed a Staff Surgeon 2nd Class in February 1854, he returned to the 28th Regiment later the same year and saw active service in the Crimean War, being awarded the Legion of Honour 5th Class for his services. He was promoted to Surgeon-Major in 1862 and Deputy Inspector-General in 1867. He retired on Half Pay with the honorary rank of Inspector-General on 12 October 1870. Marlow died at Alverstoke on 7 November 1894.
