Dudley Clifton Wodsworth was born in South Lambeth, Surrey on 30 May 1825. Appointed as an Assistant Surgeon in 1851, he was posted to the 12th Lancers on 5 August 1853. With them he served in the Third Kaffir War and the Crimea War. In the latter he was present at the battle of Tchernaya, the siege and fall of Sebastopol and the operations near Eupatoria under General d’Allonville. Again with the 12th Lancers in the suppression of the Indian Mutiny, he served with the Nerbudda Field Force and was present at the affairs at Jegunge and Kuhai, the battle of Banda and the surrender of Rajah Kirwee. Appointed a Staff Surgeon in 1858, he later served with the 12th and thence the 70th Foot, serving in New Zealand with the latter. He retired on Half Pay on 23 October 1867 and died at Southsea on 27 May 1890.
