Maharajpoor Star 1843 (Afsistant Surgeon W. J. Loch, 43rd Regt. Light Infantry), original hook and replacement ring suspension, good very fine £500-600

William James Loch was born on 6 May 1812 and became a M.R.C.S. and a L.S.A. in 1836. He was appointed an Assistant Surgeon in the Indian Medical Service on 8 January 1837 and Surgeon on 19 May 1850. He retired from the service on 6 June 1857 and died at St. Leonards on 4 November 1891. Surgeon Loch served in the First Afghan War, 1839-42, being present in the advance to Kabul and capture of Setalif (Medal), the battle of Maharajpoor (Star) and service in the First Sikh War (Medal).
