Alan Melville was serving in the 8th L.A.A. Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, at the time of being awarded the French Croix de Guerre for ‘gallant and distinguished services in the cause of the Allies’ (original No. 24 Canadian General Hospital “Daily Orders”, 13 May 1945, refer).

Sold with a quantity of original documentation, including certificate of award for the French Croix de Guerre, dated 3 April 1945; commission warrant for the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Anti-Aircraft Regiment, The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery’, dated 15 October 1940, mounted on card,
stained; the recipient’s wartime training manual and notebook, and a photograph album, this latter with approximately 130 images, many of them of the wartime vintage; together with a khaki belt-pouch containing assorted uniform flashes, including two ‘8th L.A.A. R.C.A.’ examples, the back of the pouch ink-inscribed, ‘Capt. Melville’, and a leather-cased military scientific instrument.
