Ramsgate Harbour Loyal Volunteer Artillery, a most rare officer’s die-stamped gilt brass shako plate c1798-1812, the ‘trophy’ plate of rococo outline and displaying the crown over a circle ‘Ramsgate Harbour Loyal Voluntr Artillery’ enclosing the ‘GR’ cypher, all on a background of colours, cannon barrels, swords and linstocks, at the base a mortar with piled shot to the sides, four small holes for attachment, a large fracture runs from the title circle across the top and down the side of the mortar, a small hole on the finial of the royal cypher ‘R’ £800-1000
This lot was sold as part of a special collection, The Collection of Artillery Insignia formed by the late Norman Litchfield.
