Arthur Brett was born in Hounslow on 4 January 1838. He entered the Army as an Ensign with the 2nd Dragoon Guards in August 1859, gained the rank of Lieutenant by purchase in October 1864, gained the rank of Captain in the 22nd Foot by exchange in August 1870 and was placed on Half Pay in December 1877. Selected for the rank of Paymaster in December 1878, he was granted the Honorary rank of Major in December 1883. As Paymaster, Honorary Major serving with the 10th Hussars he was entitled to the Egypt Medal with clasp for Suakin 1884 and the Khedive’s Star. By 1887 he was serving as Staff Paymaster with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. He retired with the rank of Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel in December 1896. Sold with photograph of the recipient, War Office envelope and copied research.
