Bronze Star, H.Q. 7th Infantry Division, APO 7, General Orders No. 815, 3 December 1953, ‘Second Lieutenant Bruce E. Baker, 01882279, Infantry, United States Army, a member of Company L, 17th Infantry, distinguished himself by heroic achievement near Mamyong-dong, Korea. On 27 July 1953, Lieutenant Baker, upon hearing that enemy mortar fire had scored a direct hit on one of his bunker positions, left the comparative safety of his command post in an attempt to rescue any survivors. Moving through the heavy enemy fire, Lieutenant Baker reached the demolished position and noticed two men buried in the debris. Disregarding his own personal safety, Lieutenant Baker and his men began to dig the two wounded men out of the destroyed position. After rendering first aid, Lieutenant Baker leaded (sic) the men onto a litter jeep for evacuation. Lieutenant Baker and his comrades screened the entire area for any additional casualties and then returned to the friendly positions. The heroic action of Lieutenant Baker reflects great credit on himself and the military service. Entered the Federal service from Georgia’. Sold with copied citations from G.O. 815.
