A Great War D.C.M. group of three to Private M. Watts, Royal Dublin Fusiliers

Distinguished Conduct Medal, G.V.R. (9121 Pte., 1/R. Dub. Fus.); 1914-15 Star (9121 Pte., R. Dub. Fus.); Victory Medal (9121 Pte. R.D. Fus.); together with an erased British War Medal 1914-20, mounted as worn, very fine (4) £1000-1200

D.C.M. London Gazette 3 June 1919. ‘Throughout the operations 28th September-11th November 1918, he acted as runner attached to battalion headquarters, and day and night, over ground swept by artillery and machine-gun fire, he carried messages to and from the firing line. His untiring devotion to duty and gallantry were admirable’.

Private Watts served in Gallipoli, entering the Balkan theatre of war on 19 May 1915. Later transferred to the Special Reserve. Only 82 D.C.M’s. to the Royal Dublin Fusiliers for the Great War.
