Four: Warrant Officer Class 2 W. J. Wallace, Rifle Brigade

India General Service 1895-1902, 1 clasp, Punjab Frontier 1897-98 (2077 Pte., 3d Bn. Rif. Bde.); 1914 Star (2077 Q.M. Sjt., 3/Rif. Brig.); British War and Victory Medals (2077 W.O. Cl.2, Rif. Brig.); together with three unnamed Temperance Medals - A.T.A.I.1; A.T.A.I.2 & R.A.T.A.3, good very fine (7) £160-200

William J. Wallace was born in Hackney, London. Employed as a Clerk he enlisted into the Rifle Brigade on 5 February 1892, aged 18 years, 9 months. Promoted to Corporal in 1907, Sergeant in 1909, Colour Sergeant in 1912 and Quartermaster Sergeant in 1915; he served in India during January 1895-November 1904 and Aden, November 1904-January 1906. In the Great War he served with the B.E.F. from 8 September 1914-10 April 1915. Returning to England, he was discharged as ‘no longer physically fit for war’ on 16 August 1915. Sold with copied service papers and three worn group photographs.
