Three: Ship’s Steward W. F. Jory, Royal Navy

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, 1 clasp, Alexandria 11th July (S. Stewd. 2/Cl., H.M.S. Inflexible); Royal Navy L.S.& G.C., V.R., narrow suspension (Sh. Stewd., H.M.S. Raleigh); Khedive’s Star, 1882, unnamed as issued, slight edge bruising and some contact marks, nearly very fine (3) £220-280

William Frederick Jory was born at St. Andrews, London on 10 January 1849. He enlisted into the Royal Navy on 26 March 1872, becoming Ship’s Steward Assistant aboard the Thalia in January 1873 and Ship’s Steward 3rd Class aboard the same ship in November 1874. Promoted to Ship’s Steward 2nd Class on the Jackal in March 1881, he served aboard the Inflexible, seeing service at Alexandria, during July 1881-August 1883. Jory attained the rank of Ship’s Steward 1st Class when serving on the Revenge in March 1884 and gained the Long Service Medal when serving on the Raleigh, July 1888-July 1889. He was pensioned ashore on 31 January 1892. Sold with copied service details.
