Three: Major-General F. L. Campbell, Scots Guards

Egypt and Sudan 1882-89, undated reverse, no clasp (Lieut., Scots Gds.); British War Medal 1914-20 (Maj. Gen.); Khedive’s Star 1884-6, unnamed, good very fine and better (3) £350-400

Frederick Lorn Campbell was born on 2 February 1850, son of Rear-Admiral F. A. Campbell. He was educated at Eton before entering the Scots Guards. He was Brigade Major Home District, 1879-82; Assistant Military Secretary in Egypt, 1883-85; A.A.G. and Q.M.G. Egypt, 1885-87; Chief Staff Officer Home District 1887-90. He attained the rank of Major-General in 1898 and was placed on Retired Pay in 1901. During the Great War, Major-General Campbell was Temporary Director of Recruiting, 1914-15 and commanded a Reserve Centre, 1915-16. He was awarded the Silver War Badge on 6 April 1918. He married Caroline, widow of Major H. W. Bruce, R.A. in 1879; their only son was killed in action in 1914. Major-General Campbell died on 24 August 1931. Sold with copied m.i.c. and other research.
