Three: Corporal Alfred Boucher, Royal Engineers, late Royal Sappers & Miners

South Africa 1834-53 (A. Boucher, Rl. Saprs. & Minrs.); Canada General Service 1866-70, 1 clasp, Fenian Raid 1866 (No. 1102 Corpe. A. Boucher, Royal Engrs.) officially impressed naming; Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (1102 Corpl. Alfred Boucher, Royl. Engrs.) together with original letter concerning issue of Canada G.S., good very fine and scarce (3) £500-600

Alfred Boucher was born in the Parish of Gillingham, Kent, and enlisted for the Corps of Royal Sappers & Miners at Woolwich on 29 January 1846, aged 17 years 5 months, a collar maker by trade. He served at the Cape of Good Hope, 9 years 2 months, and in British North America, 5 years 7 months. Corporal Boucher was discharged at Halifax, Nova Scotia, on 29 August 1867, at which time he was in possession of 5 good conduct badges, medal for ‘Caffir War 1851-53’ and medal for long service and good conduct. His discharge papers also note that he was ‘awarded medal & clasp for Fenian Raid 1866 (Canada). Issued 14.5.1907’ (original letter sold with medal refers).
