Volunteer Force Long Service, E.VII.R. (4291 C. Sjt. W. E. Beatey, 1st V.B. L’pool. Regt.) impressed naming, some contact marks, about very fine £50-70

William Edward Harper Beatey was born in Liverpool and was a postman by occupation. He enlisted into the Regular Army on 6 August 1914 having previously served in the 1st Volunteer Battalion Liverpool Regiment, for which he was awarded the Volunteer Long Service Medal. Serving with the 5th Battalion Liverpool Regiment, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 21 February 1915. He was discharged on 11 December 1919, aged 52 years and was awarded the Silver War Badge. For his wartime services he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal (London Gazette 3 June 1919) in addition to the 1914-15 Star, British War and Victory Medals. Post-war, he was again employed as a postman, and was awarded the Imperial Service Medal for this service (London Gazette 13 September 1927). Sold with copied research including 1901 Census details.
