Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, no clasp (45 Tptr. C. J. Gavagan, Roberts’ Horse) extremely fine £60-80

Ex D.N.W. 4 April 2001, when sold with four clasps.

This man appears on the roll for Robert’s Horse as 2077 Trooper C. G. Gavagan, entitled to Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal, with marginal notes, ‘Discharged Misconduct 17.10.00; Issued from 5th V.M.R.; Forfeits Medal (I have medal & clasps issued as 1281 5th V.M.R.).’ The regimental number ‘45’ is allocated to Trooper S. H. Banks in Robert’s Horse. The proceedings of discharge show 1002 Bugler C. G. Gavagan, “A” Squadron, Roberts Horse, Services no longer required, 12 October 1900. Address after discharge - Melbourne, Victoria. Charles John Gavagan is shown on the roll of the 5th Victoria Mounted Rifles as a Bugler, No. 1281, invalided to Australia, arrived 3 October 1901. Sold with copies of medal rolls.
