John Pendry Davies, a native of Fishponds, Bristol, was first embarked for active service in June 1915 and was killed in action at Lys on 12 April 1918, while serving in ‘A’ Company, 2nd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment - ‘On the 12th the enemy attacked in force and outflanked our troops ... we suffered heavy casualties and were forced to withdraw to Rapot where in conjunction with the 1st Newfoundland Regiment a railway embankment was held during the day’ (Battalion war diary refers). He was 29 years of age and is buried in the Tourcoing (Pont-Neuville) Communal Cemetery, France.
