Tom Dance, who was born at Bedwellty, Tredegar and enlisted at Blackwood, and was the son of Noah and Margaret Dance of Argoed, was first embarked for active service in February 1915. Killed in action at Frezenberg Ridge, Ypres on 8 May 1915, while serving in the 1st Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment, he was 21 years of age and is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial.
