Bertie Filer, who first entered the French theatre of war as a Private in the 2nd Battalion, Monmouthshire Regiment in early November 1914, was wounded on 7 April 1915 (Free Press of Monmouthshire refers). He was subsequently honourably discharged as a result of wounds in November 1918, and awarded the Silver War Badge, having in the interim been attached to the Labour Corps.
