S. R. Docking served in the Boer War with the Hants Yeomanry. Along with others from the Epsom and Croydon Troops of the Hants Yeomanry he transferred to form “C” Squadron of the Surrey Yeomanry in 1899. As Squadron Sergeant-Major he was awarded the Imperial Yeomanry L.S. in August 1905. Commissioned Captain in March 1911, by the end of the Great War he attained the rank of Major. For his services in the war he was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 20 May 1917) and awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre. Sold with copied service details.
