Military General Service 1793-1814, 4 clasps, Corunna, Badajoz, Vittoria, St. Sebastian (James Preece, 4th Foot) edge bruising, about very fine £800-1000




James Preece was born in Ledbury, Herefordshire. A Labourer by occupation, he enlisted into the 4th Foot at Horsham, Sussex on 19 August 1799, aged 21 years. With the regiment he served for 22 years, being present at actions in Holland and Copenhagen, the Peninsula, Washington, Baltimore, New Orleans and Fort Bowyer. His service papers record ‘& never wounded’. Medal clasps confirmed. Preece was also present with the regiment in Belgium during 1815, but having been detached “as Commissary Guard” was not awarded the Waterloo Medal. Clasps confirmed. Sold with copied discharge papers and notes.
