Private George Heighton saw active service in New Zealand from January 1861 until September 1866, including the Waitara campaign; the Waikato campaign and actions at Koheroa, Paparatu and Rangiriri; and the Wanganui campaign and actions at Okatuki, Parata and Wairaro. He was discharged at Melbourne, Australia, in March 1870.
