The group of three miniatures named to Lieutenant R. L. Smith, Royal Engineers, Military Cross, G.V.R., reverse inscribed, ‘Laidlaw Smith, R.E. T.F., l’Agincourt, March 21st 1918’, also marked ‘silver’; British War and Victory Medals, unnamed; together with a Royal Engineer’s cap badge, these all contained in a fitted leather case, case hinge damaged, contents nearly extremely fine (4) £60-80

An ivorine label is also fitted within the case, reading, ‘London Gazette 16 Sept. 1918. Lt. R. L. Smith, R.E. He held a point with his section, some infantry and a machine gun against heavy enemy odds and in the face of heavy shelling and machine gun fire, until the machine gun jammed and the men’s ammunition gave out. He set a splendid example of courage and detirmination’.
