The extremely rare Georgian miniature bar worn by Lieutenant-General Sir Colin Campbell, K.C.B., Coldstream Guards, comprising gold bar of seven oval gold plaques, each with blue enamelled border and appliqué decoration or medal, viz: Military Order of the Bath with crown, gold and enamels; Austria, Order of Maria Theresa, gold and enamels; Russia, Order of St George, gold and enamels; Waterloo Medal, silver, reverse with Wellington and Water[loo] both spelt with capital ‘V’; Bavaria, Order of Maximillian Joseph, gold and enamels; Portugal, Order of the Tower and Sword, gold and enamels; Army Gold Cross, the four arms inscribed [B]ad, Sal, Vi, Pyr, for Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria and Pyrenees, the reverse with gold pin fitting, worn from specially woven silk combination ribbon, damage to ornamental devices between plaques and to enamels generally, therefore good fine and unique £2500-3000

Colin Campbell, son of John Campbell, born in 1776, ran away to sea from Perth Academy in 1792 and was brought home from Jamaica as a Midshipmanon an East Indiaman the following year. He joined the Militia in 1795 and the Army in 1799, going to India to join the 78th Foot; served under Arthur Wellesley at Ahmednuggur, where he distinguished himself in the storming party, at Assye, where he was a Brigade Major and severely wounded, and at Argaum; appointed A.D.C. to Wellesley, and returned with him to England in 1805; served in Hanover in 1806, in Denmark in 1807, in Portugal in 1808, and in the Peninsula from 1809 to 1814; present at Roleia and Vimiera and returned home with despatches of both battles; present at Talavera, Busaco, Fuentes D’Onor, Badajoz, Salamanca, Vittoria, Pyrenees, Nivelle, Nive and Toulouse, for which he received the Gold Cross and 6 clasps and was made Commander of the Tower and Sword of Portugal; appointed Assistant Quartermaster-General to Wellington’s Headquarters in 1812; K.C.B. in 1814; at Waterloo on Wellington’s Staff as A.Q.M.G. and awarded Orders of Maria Theresa, Maximillian Joseph and St George; Major-General 1825; Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia 1833; Governor of Ceylon 1839-47; died in London on 13 June 1847.
