Francis David Alexander, whose services in the Transvaal between November 1901 and May 1902 are confirmed by relevant sources, was twice mentioned in despatches in the Great War, on the first occasion while attached to 2nd Signal Squadron, R.E., while his Belgian Croix de Guerre was awarded to him while employed in the Remount Service. Likewise, his subsequent award of the C.B.E. was in respect of his services as Inspector of Remounts.
