A scarce Ashantee War gold C.M.G. pair awarded to Commissary H. F. Blissett, Commissariat and Transport Department, late Control Department

The Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, C.M.G., Companion’s breast badge, gold and enamels, complete with gold ribbon buckle; Ashantee 1873-74, no clasp (Dy. Comsy. H. F. Blissett, Control Dept. 73-74) some very minor cracks and chips to the first, otherwise extremely fine (2) £1000-1200

C.M.G. London Gazette 8 May 1874: ‘Deputy Commissary Henry Frederick Blissett, having charge of the Stores and Transport at the Gold Coast, under Commander John Hawley Glover.’

Blissett served in the Ashantee expedition of 1873-74 as Control Officer with Captain Glover’s Force (Mentioned in Despatches, C.M.G., Medal). He was appointed Commissary of the African Branch in February 1876.
