Pair: Private D. E. Whitehouse, Australian Forces, who was posted ‘missing, presumed wounded and P.O.W.’ in Korea in August 1952, but by 1955 was officially declared as ‘missing, presumed deceased’

Korea 1950-53
(3/10796 D. E. Whitehouse); U.N. Korea (3/10796 D. E. Whitehouse), good very fine or better (2) £500-600

Sold with original Army H.Q., Melbourne telegrams (2) and letters (2) to the recipient’s next of kin, charting the sorry saga of his “missing” status from August 1952 through to March 1955, when he was finally declared as ‘missing, presumed deceased, on or after 14 August 1952’; together with a local newspaper cutting that reveals Whitehouse was from Edgbaston, Birmingham and had joined the Australian Army in November 1951 after completing his National Service - the article continues that the assistance of his local M.P. had been enlisted to try and establish his fate.
