M.I.D. London Gazette 19 May 1953. H.M.S. Cardigan Bay.

The 2,420 tons anti-aircraft frigate
Cardigan Bay (ex-Loch Laxford) was launched at Leith in December 1944 and broken up at Troon in 1962. On service on the Far Eastern Station, the ship began the first of its five operational tours in the Korean War in late November 1950. In July 1951 the ship was involved in the hazardous task of salvaging a Russian-built MiG-15 fighter that had crashed and sunk in shallow water off enemy-held Hanchon. The ship provided close support for the successful salvage operations which allowed the aircraft to be examined by allied technicians. During late July - November 1951, negotiating numerous mud banks, she was actively involved with the bombardment of enemy positions on the Han River. For these and other services the ship was awarded the battle honour, ‘Korea 1950-53’. Sold with copied ship’s history.
