Pair: Miss Margaret Gorrie, B.R.C.S. & St. J.J., Anglo-Russian Hospital, St Petersburg

British War and Victory Medals (M. Gorrie, B.R.C.S. & St. J.J.); together with Anglo Russian Hospital oval bronze cape badge, and Russian Red Cross Society badge by Eduard, St Petersburg, silver-gilt and enamels, good very fine and rare (4) £350-400

Margaret Gorrie was appointed to the Anglo-Russian Hospital on 1 November 1915, and terminated her employment there on 10 January 1918. She was supposedly awarded the Order of St Vladimir, 4th class, but this has not been confirmed.

The Anglo-Russian Hospital in St Petersburg was opened in October 1915 in the Palace of the Grand Duke Dimitri Pavlovich. Organised by the British Red Cross Society and maintained by a British Committee, the hospital was handed over to the Russian Red Cross in 1918. For full details of this hospital and roll of medical and nursing staff etc., see
The Forgotten Hospital by Michael Harmer, Chichester Press, 1982.
