Joseph Smith was born in and enlisted at Hull, East Yorkshire. He served initially as Private 50328 in the West Yorkshire Regiment, then as Private 35745 in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 12 September 1918, whilst serving as Private 64032 with the 5th Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial. Sold with copied m.i.c.
