John Charles Hopkins was born in Aston, Birmingham and enlisted at Birmingham, serving initially as Private 14402 in the Hussars. Serving as a Serjeant with the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Regiment, he died of wounds on 15 July 1916. He was buried in Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-l’Abbe, Somme, France.
