James Harling was born in Newton, Manchester and enlisted at Manchester. Serving with the 1st/7th Battalion Manchester Regiment, he was killed in action, at Gallipoli, on 4 June 1915 (Third Battle of Krithia), aged 33 years. The husband of Lillian Emily Harling of 206 Ashton New Road, Beswick, Manchester; his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial.
