Frank Herbert Dovey was born in Sugnall, Wolverhampton on 11 June 1883. A baker by trade, he enlisted into the Royal Marines at Birmingham on 24 March 1902. Pre-war, he served on the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert, 1908-14. He was enrolled into the Royal Fleet Reserve in March 1914. With the outbreak of war he was mobilized and into the Portsmouth Division, Victory Royal Marine Brigade. With the Brigade he served in Belgium, landing at Ostend on 26 August 1914 and was taken prisoner at Antwerp, 14 October 1914. Released from captivity in January 1919, he was awarded the Long Service Medal and demobilized in April 1919. He died on 3 November 1963.

Sold with copied service papers, an original Christmas card bearing the photograph of H.M.Y. Victoria & Albert, a photograph of the recipient and a post card entitled, ‘The Marines Busy at Ostend’. Also with two metal Royal Marine badges.
