Reginald Lucas Hastings Conlan appointed 2nd Lieutenant, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, 18 October 1899; Lieutenant, 5 March 1900; Adjutant of the 5th battalion, 10 July 1907; Captain, 21 June 1908 and Major 1 September 1915.

Served with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers in the Boer War, being present at the relief of Ladysmith operations in June 1900, operations in Natal, March-June 1900 including the action at Laing’s Nek, operations in the Orange River Colony, June and operations in the Transvaal east of Pretoria, July 1900. late war service included operations in the Transvaal, December 1900-May 1901 and Jan-May 1902 (Queen’s and King’s medals). In the Great War he served in Belgium, 22-27 August 1914 and was wounded. (1914 Star, British War and Victory Medals).
